Emily Romero

Senior Director of Institutional Relations

As Senior Director at Grameen Foundation, Emily Romero leads the Institutional Relations team’s efforts to pursue strategic partnerships and new funding opportunities for financial inclusion, women's economic empowerment, and digital agriculture programs worldwide. As a Peace Corps Volunteer, Fordham Arrupe Fellow, and Catholic Relief Services International Development Fellow, Emily spent five years living and working in Central and West Africa advancing microfinance, women’s empowerment, and environmental education initiatives.

Emily has also supported the growth of social enterprise and park-based programming at Washington Parks & People, humanitarian response in Haiti and the Middle East with Relief International, and the launch of a mobile banking and remittances product at SF Tech, LLC. Fluent in French, with a basic level of Spanish, Emily holds a master's in international political economy and development from Fordham University and a B.A. in English and history from Oberlin College. Emily also serves as Board Chair of UpRooted Dance, a dance non-profit based in the D.C. Metro area. Based in Silver Spring, MD Emily likes to hike, see live music, and travel with her husband, son, and daughter.
