If you want to go far, go together--so says an old African proverb. And we believe it’s true.
Collaboration is at the core of Grameen Foundation and Freedom from Hunger--and we have now joined forces. Throughout our history, both of our organizations have worked to expand access to financial services, alleviate poverty and reduce hunger, partnering with organizations and local communities around the world. Our staff routinely meet with the people we serve -- in their small shops, with their village savings groups, and on their farms-- to ensure the new programs and products we’re creating are what people need and will use. And we develop and share tools and ideas to help strengthen the entire development industry.
Today, we are proud to continue the fight against poverty and hunger as one unified organization under the Grameen Foundation banner. Together, we are dedicated to helping even more families transform their lives.
We are excited about this new chapter in our journey for three reasons.
- We can empower more women. As nurturers and entrepreneurs, women are central to their families' success. Yet, they are often cut off from resources that could help them. Through self-help village groups and digital tools, we will help women earn and save more, protect their health, and become more resilient to challenges.
- We can improve food security. Across the developing world, small-scale farmers produce up to 80% of the food but are often among the most vulnerable in their communities. What they often lack is the financing, agricultural advice and inputs that could boost their productivity and incomes. Working with farmer organizations and lenders, and supported by digital technology, we will help farmers get the resources they need to feed their families and strengthen their communities.
- We can build stronger communities. Grameen Foundation and Freedom from Hunger have deep respect for the people and communities we serve. They are integral partners in shaping solutions to the problems of poverty. As a combined organization, Grameen Foundation will now work with even more leaders and community members across a wider geography to create sustainable solutions to poverty and hunger.
Grameen Foundation could not have come this far without your support. And we look forward to joining together with the supporters of Freedom from Hunger to achieve even greater success.
Over the coming months, we will share more about our integrated programs. We also want to hear from you.
Please join us for the first webinar conversation on November 15 at noon (EST) to learn more about the integration and how you can help us sustain the fight against poverty and hunger.
