We did it!  American Express® has confirmed that we won $200,000 in funding!  Click here for our official announcement.

Thank you for taking time out to vote and asking your networks to do the same throughout the Members Project® online voting contest.  I know we sent many e-mails – you were kind to open and respond.

Your votes made the difference: 

  • Most of the competing organizations have much larger networks and budgets than Grameen Foundation. Every single vote counted!
  • $200,000 will help us make a difference in the lives of poor families - those who live on less than $1 a day.
  • When it comes to the fight against poverty, no action is too small. And if we all begin by taking just a single action, a single step, it will propel our world miles closer to making poverty a thing of the past.

Akosua took out a micro-loan to invest in a small kiosk in a residential area to sell smoked fish, tomatoes, eggplant, ground nuts, dried pepper, and other items.

She makes about 50 cedi (US$50) in sales a day at her kiosk, generating a daily profit of about 10 cedi (US$10). “My husband is happy to see my business growing,” Akosua exclaims with a big grin and a hearty chuckle.
