Nasriyah, Indonesia

Microfinance helps Nasiryah regain hope after losing her business to the tsunami.

Nasriyah went to the branch office and asked loan officers to come to her village and provide loans to women there. YKBS now has 30 members from that village, including Nasriyah. She took out a $100 loan to replace the cooking equipment she lost in the tsunami. Before the loan, Nasriyah made about $2 a day, but with the new equipment, Nasriyah makes a daily profit of $3. During Idul Adha, the Muslim holiday of feasting in January, Nasriyah averaged a daily profit of $5. She says that with the new equipment purchased with her loan, she is able to cook more food in less time, which grows her profit. Nasriyah is now empowered to one day open up a new shop right in front of her home where can be closer to her family.
